“Bohemian Rhapsody II - The search continues…“ — Recital Programme.

“When Charles becomes King - Chamber Music for Mendelssohn’s 200th birthday“ — Piano trio.
Take a musical trip to England with the Hamburg Chamber Players in 2009 to celebrate Mendelssohn’s 200th birthday. Works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Arthur Sullivan und Frank Bridge and for the crowning jewel of the evening, Mendelssohn’s celebrated trio in D minor Op. 49. Between the pieces, the musicians will read from Mendelssohn’s letters relating his impressions from his 10 visits to England.

“Eastern Myths“ — Piano trio.

““Passionate Paintings“ — String trio.
This programme presents the Hamburg Chamber Players in a unique combination with 3 Duos from various eras. First, Johann Georg Albrechtsberger, an early classical composer (viola and cello); the Romantic Robert Fuchs, friend of Brahms and teacher of many famous composers (violin and viola); and the impressionist composer Maurice Ravel, with his typical passionate impressionistic world (violin and cello). The highlight of the evening - the String Trio in D major Op. 9,2 by Albrechsberger’s most famous student, Ludwig van Beethoven.

Piano Quartet

"Reality and Dreams“. Piano quartet. Dream away with the Hamburg Chamber Players performing Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E flat Op. 47 as well as works by Dohnányi, Smetana and Dawydow.

“Nordic Walking II - In the Steps of Odin“ — Piano quartet.
In this second Scandinavian programme, hear the unique harmonies of the north. As usual, the Hamburg Chamber Players present various combinations, this time with Grieg’s cello sonata in A minor Op. 36, Valse Triste arranged for viola and piano, by Sibelius as well as his String Trio G minor. The highlight of the evening is the Piano Quartet Op. 26 by the Norwegian David Monrad Johansen. Monrad Johansen was an avid reader of the ancient Nordic tales which influenced him to compose harmonies which strongly reflect the Nordic ideals and presents through the music, impressions of the tales of the gods.

“Bohemian Rhapsody III - The Return to Bohemia“ — Piano quartet.
For the 150th Birthday (2010) of Gustav Mahler and the 100th anniversary of his death (2011), the Hamburg Chamber Players bring their cycle of Bohemian chamber music to a close. In this the 3rd programme, four members of the group capture the chamber music highlights for piano quartet, Mahler’s Quartet-Movement in A minor and the Piano Quartet in E-flat major Op.87 by Antonín Dvorák. As well, Dvorak’s friends Smetana and Janácek and Dvorak’s Son-in-law Suk make their re-appearance on this programme.

“Parallel Worlds of the Romantic” A — Piano quintet.
The Hamburg Chamber Players invite you to participate in a little thought experiment and compare the compositions of two friends from Hamburg in terms of “Parallel Worlds“: The Piano Quintet in D major Op. 20 by Ferdinand Thieriot and the Piano Quartet in C minor Op. 60 by Johannes Brahms. Stücke im Volkston (cello and piano) by Schumann as well as some selections from Fantasy Pieces, by another Brahms friend Robert Fuchs, round up the programme.

“A Visit to Hamburg“ — String Octet
In honour of the 200th birthday of the world famous composer, Felix Mendelssohn, we pay a visit to his home town of Hamburg. There we will hear a new work composed for the Hamburg Chamber Players by the north German composer Peter Heeren, a Sextet by the forgotten Hamburg composer and Brahms friend Ferdinand Thieriot and Mendelssohn’s masterpiece the Octet in E-flat major Op. 20.
